The main island of Weno (formerly Moen) is the capital and commercial center and located in the Chuuk lagoon. Today Weno is the administration island in Chuuk. During the Japanese it was called ‘Harushima’. The land area is 18k㎡. Mt. Tonoken (369m) and Mt. Tonaachau (229m) are in the middle of the island of Weno. The island is covered by tropical woods and the town is by the ocean where banks, hotels, stores, airport are.

ACCESS TO TOWN

Chuuk international airport is located in central northwest of Weno island and hotel shuttle will wait for you. All taxis are private and the price is negotiable (normally $1-5).

Chuuk Visitors Bureau is located on the 2nd floor of the Chuuk International Airport. There are Weno maps, Truk lagoon maps, DVDs and postcards for sales.

Currency money is USD. There are Bank of Guam and FSM Bank in the town.
Mon-Thu 9:00-15:00, Fri 9:00-17:00. Traveler's check can use at hotel, dive shop and some restaurants.

CLIMATE AND CLOTHES

Temperature is 26-28℃ all through the year so T-shirt and shorts is recommended. But too expose is disrespectful especially for women.

TAXI

There is a plate ‘TAXI’ at front of car. $1 is in town, $3 is town to far out villages. All taxis are private and run only day time. Please use the hotel shuttle at night time.

Post office – Located in front of the High Tide Hotel. Mon-Fri 9:00-16:00

Long distance call – There is telephone card selling at any hotels or stores.

There is internet service (1H $5) at FSM telecom office (near the airport) and some hotels provide internet service
